Lots to Do this Weekend
For me, this weekend is going to be all about two things: apartment hunting and packing. Before this whole moving out mess, I had a lot of things planned for this weekend. Since I’m posting late (I had cute plans for Friday too), here are some things you should for Saturday and Sunday.
BON DANCE SCHEDULE FOR FRIDAY & SATURDAY (AUG 8 & 9)
Pearl City Hongwanji Temple, 858 2nd St – 7:30pm
Soto Mission of Aiea-Taiheji, 99-045 Kauhale St. – 7:30pm
Shingon Mission of Hawaii, 915 Sheridan St. – 7:00pm
Seems kind of dorky, I know, but it’s actually kinda fun to see. Even if the religious aspect of the ceremony doesn’t appeal to you, how can you say no to singing grandmas and grandpas dancing in a circle with kimonos on?
I haven’t been to the first two before, but I really liked the one at Shingon Mission of Hawaii. The temple is located right next to the McDonalds on Keeaumoku near Ala Moana. Last time I went there was cheap food, games, and lots of adorable old people dancing. You can even go inside the temple to pay your respects.
TEMPO VALLEY at Jazz Minds on Saturday (AUG 9)

After you watch the bon dance, you can head on over to Jazz Minds to see Tempo Valley! I was fortunate enough to meet Paisley at a past Downetowne party and she’s a sweetheart. I also got a chance to meet Seph1 and he’s also a very, very nice guy. They have such a great sound–they’re probably one of my favorite local bands, so please support them! Go to their myspace to check out their events–they’ve done some really good things for Hawaii (not just for our music scene).
Okay, figured I wanted to do something lowkey for Saturday because on Sunday there’s…
Casa!
The Loft
115 North Hotel Street
(Corner of Hotel and Maunakea)
FEATURING:DJ BADMOUTH, MARLON, MS.ANGEL
DRINK SPECIALS ALL NITE!
How did the 2nd week of the month get here so damn quickly? If you haven’t been to Casa before, check out my review and pictures here. Even if you don’t know how to dance (like me), it’s really fun to watch and wiggle around pretending you can dance.
So that was supposed to be my weekend. It’s now 7:00am on Saturday, maybe if I start everything now, you’ll see me out and about later tonight or tomorrow!

I know you can't see my face, but I figure most people will recognize me as the big cheeks behind the camera. My name is Kristel. This blog, much like my life, is a work in progress. I take pictures at events around town and I'm big on candid photos. Nice to meet you.
